Chacocente Christian School Update
Thank you so much for your continuing support of Project Chacocente! Your support is truly making a difference in the lives of the children, the families of Project Chacocente, and the families in the surrounding communities. People in Nicaragua are beginning to refer to the Project and the surrounding area as Chacocente.
The new school year began on January 31, 2017, for 146 students in grades pre-school through eleventh grade at the Chacocente Christian School. Jacqueline Vanessa Hernández Roa continues as the school’s director, and Karen Elena Gómez Hernández as the sub-director. Class sizes are still small with an average of 12 students per class. The teachers remain dedicated to providing a quality education for their students. Several have their children or grandchildren enrolled in the school.
Thanks to some generous donors, Jimmy, a 2015 Chacocente Christian School graduate, is in his second year of nursing school in Managua. He did very well his first year and is excited to be continuing with his education. When able, he comes back to help at the project and spend time with the U.S. delegations.

Students who are graduating in December, 2017, include two residents of Project Chacocente, Jonathan David Ortiz Orozco and Alison (Alinson) Gabriela Paiz Larios. Jonathan wants to pursue a career in computer engineering because it is a useful tool in many kinds of jobs and offers a variety of opportunities. He is also continuing to study English at the University of Central America (UCA) and is doing very well. Alinson (or Alison as she prefers to be called) loves studying mathematics and would like a career in business accounting. She is also interested in computer science and is currently taking additional computer classes in Masaya. She says she isn’t sure which she likes better, computers or accounting, but hopes she can do both.

Continuing Education Scholarships
Several young people and adults at Project Chacocente are interested in furthering their education through advanced English classes, and we want to help them! Education will increase their self-esteem and job marketability.
Two who are looking to take the English classes are Alinson (see her picture and story above) and Elías Enoc Hondoy Gómez. Elías is in eighth grade and would like to pursue a career in medicine specializing in orthopedics to help improve the lives of many people. He would like to help other children with the same problem from which he himself suffered.

Can you help? Partial scholarships, as well as full scholarships, are greatly appreciated. A full scholarship for students studying English at the University of Central America is $65 a month and covers the cost of tuition and assists with the cost of transportation to the university in Managua. We are very proud of the devotion and expertise of all of our teachers. Aiming to provide academic opportunities far above those available at state-run schools, we hire only qualified, capable teachers. We recognize that most teachers in Nicaragua are grossly underpaid (often earning less than sweat shop workers), and we are committed to fairly compensating our employees.
We’re hoping you will help us! Please consider sponsoring a teacher. Your $500 monthly sponsorship (or $6,000 annually) will better the lives of not only the teacher but also the lives of his or her students. Join together with friends and churches to truly make a lasting effect.
